Ny nursing schools:The Average Salary of a Registered Nurse

Nursing colleges are some of the best secondary schools to attend if you want have a career in a relatively high-paying and secure job field, which is even more important nowadays because of the struggling economy. Nurses will always be in high demand, be paid well, and be a very respected profession, but it's important that you do plenty of research to decide which nursing school is the best fit for you.



Requirements needed to be admitted to an LPN-Licensed-Vocational-Nurse-LVN/">LVN program vary. Generally, applicants must have a high school diploma, GED or the equivalent. Although grades are often not taken into consideration, applicants with backgrounds in science and computer are usually favored. There are also a few schools that administer simple tests to their applicants in order to evaluate their numeracy and language skills. Many schools require applicants to a pass a simple physical test to check whether they are physically fit to take on the job of LPN, which usually involves lifting of heavy loads such as assisting patients with their grooming and walking and to help in moving medical equipment. Passing this physical test qualifies them to sign up for the program.



LPN programs include skill trainings and foundations in health care and information. A one year course covers topics such as Practical Nursing, Emergency Medicine, Pharmacology, Anatomy, Cardiac Life Support, Surgery, CPR, Physiology, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Mental Health and Geriatrics. Variations may be found in the curriculum of different schools but the main components of a good LPN program are usually included.



The employer, size of business and other factors also affect an RN's benefits not only an RN's salary. The benefits of RNs include: Paid time off -nurses being registered are allowed 2 weeks' worth of accumulated paid vacation. The benefit's value increases in accordance to her ability to earn higher. 2 weeks paid time off is equivalent to $2403.00 Paid sick leave - employees get sick from time to time thus this benefit. A lot of employers grant their employees one week worth of sick time a year which can be converted to $1200.00. Paid Holiday Time Off - There are about 6 paid holidays in a year. This means an extra 48 hours paid without work that may be worth $1441.92 for those getting average registered nurse salary.



During the ny nursing schools, students are trained to record patient information and history, take vital signs functions such as a patient's temperature and blood pressure readings as well as respiration and pulse counts, prepare and administer intravenous injections, administer a patient's physical examination, administer bedside care on the patient, administer oral medications, collect and extract lab samples, dress and clean surgical wounds, and assist doctors and nurses, and supervise nursing aides. After completing the formal course, LPN graduates are expected to undergo an internship or have an on-the-job training before taking the NCLEX-PN exam. Passing the NCLEX-PN exam will make one a licensed practical nurse and makes him eligible to work in any health care institution.
